Welcome to our Understanding Bullying short course series, which will introduce you to the key themes contained in ‘Respect for All, The National Approach to Anti-Bullying for Scotland’s Children and Young People’. All courses have been designed for all adults who work with or care for children and young people, or anyone who would like to find out more about bullying.

Understanding Bullying focuses on building a solid foundation of knowledge about what bullying is and important associated issues. This learning series will give you a good understanding about bullying before advancing on to our Responding to Bullying series which looks at the range of practical skills and strategies that can be used to respond effectively to bullying.

By completing all courses in this series, you will be able to:

  • Identify why addressing bullying is essential
  • Describe what bullying is
  • Recognise types of bullying behaviour
  • Recognise the role of prejudice in bullying
  • Develop your understanding of how promoting positive relationships is essential to preventing bullying

Our aim is to provide you with useful guidance to assist you to support children and young people affected by bullying, whatever role you play in their lives, whether you are an adult working with children and young people, a parent or a carer - we all have a role to play in addressing bullying.
